Is cannabis legal in Kenya?

Cannabis is illegal in Kenya.

Kenya has a thriving cannabis trade, with the plant being widely cultivated and produced for domestic consumption and regional markets. Much of Kenya's cannabis supply ends up at "Korogocho", Nairobi's black market for cannabis, where bags of the drug are hidden among farm produce to avoid detection.

Both cultivation and use remain illegal, and harsh penalties are imposed on those who are caught.

Legislation

The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act No. 4, 1994.

Cannabis for personal consumption punishable by 10 - 20 years of imprisonment and cultivation punishable by a predetermined fine or three times the cannabis market value and/or 20 years of imprisonment.
